Chile – Customs and Import duty tax calculation method

Customs Duties or Import duty and taxes will be pending and need to be cleared while importing goods into Chile whether by a private individual or a commercial entity.

The valuation method is CIF.

Below table provide the Duty and Sales tax for Chile:

6% 19% VAT= VAT%(CIF + Duty). No Threshold on VAT Classification and Duty are exempted if FOB is less than US$30.

The average duty rate is 6%.

The U.S. and Chile entered into the U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA), effective January 1, 2004. For ‘non originating’ goods, the Chilean tariff rate is 6% of the CIF (cost, insurance, and freight) value. See the table below for Chilean tariffs (percent ad valorem) on textile and apparel products that do not meet the U.S.-Chile FTA Rules of Origin.

  • Classification charge = 1% (CIF) If FOB is greater than US$30.
  • Luxury tax = 15% and 50% (CIF value + duty) On products like Luxury cars, Jewels, and fireworks respectively
  • Excise duty on Alcohol = 13%, 15% and 27% (CIF + duty)
